Summer '06 (Aug. 19)
Aug 20, 2006 - 25 Photos

Yesterday, the 19th of August 2006 was a day of joy and laughter for my husband Doms and I for we were able to reunite once again with former students and now also with their families after 20 years. My husband and I were really looking forward to this day since these are people who were not only our former students but have also become our friends now and we are glad that we have made a certain impact on them that they also looked forward to seeing us once again.

Doms and I used to work at the Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Technology (Nagtahan, Manila, Philippines) with him teaching at the Engineering Dept and I was a guidance counselor. For both of us, our work in this institution was dear to our hearts because we feel that we have made a difference in the students whose lives we have touch and they in turn have made our lives and jobs more meaningful.

We were visited here in Boston by Nazie Besana (who's here from the Philippines to attend his church's conference), Tony & Honey David(now living in New Jersey) with kids Gabriel & Erica and Eric & Lanie Balbuena(from Connecticut) with kids, Paige & Jolo. We met them at the MIT (Cambridge, MA) parking lot besides my husband's place of work and had lunch first at Legal Seafoods just across the Harvard-MIT HST building. It was really wonderful to catch with each other's lives and get to know the newer additions to the family. We brought our daughter's Karrol and Dominique so that they could also meet them and maybe learn some things about their Mom & Dad's past works.

After lunch, we walked towards the Charles river and took more photos with the Boston skyline as background. Since, they were also going back that same day to Connecticut, we had to shorten our visit by going to Harvard University to take more pictures and get some souvenirs.

Unfortunately, they weren't able to go to the Aquarium as originally planned since it was already getting late, so my husband drove around Boston's downtown area for a little bit just so that they can see the city.

We ended up at the Prudential Tower and went up to the Skywalk so that they can also view the city of Boston from up high. Afterwards, we had some food at the food court before they went home. It was hard saying goodbye, but we made plans to see each other again next year for a family vacation hopefully in Maine.

My first Caricature

Category :

This is a caricature that was done for us during our summer office party held last Thursday, August 10, 2006. With me are my officemates Mary and Mimoza. It was a perfect day for an outdoor summer picnic. Eveybody was in high spirits and the atmosphere was more relax. If you're wondering why we're holding phones, it is because it represents our office or place of work which is Telecom. Thought I'd show you where I got my new profile photo...

BTW, special thanks to my daughter, Dominique, for a good job extracting my profile from the main sketch. Boohoohoo!!! what am I gonna do once she goes off to college this September? I need tech support...

The Music of Michael Jackson (Aug. 13 - 19, 2006)

Category :

I have always been a Michael Jackson fan even when he was still with the Jackson 5. I guess I can say that I grew up with his music. In fact he was the only artist who went to the Philippines for a concert that I summoned the courage to ask my father for money to watch the Jackson 5 in their very first Asian concert tour. During those days, it would be considered outrageous (in my family anyway) to go and watch a concert especially by myself. My brother who was a year younger than me didn't want to come and my sister was too young to offer protection so I ended up going with a neighbor. The heavens must have took pity on me because wonder of wonders, my father allowed me to go see the concert and gave me the money to buy the 2 tickets that I need. I guess it was really meant to be. It was my very first live concert and I didn't know what to expect. But now I know that nothing beats a live performance.

That show was truly electrifying and I couldn't help but be on my feet most of the time. It was one of my most memorable experiences and I am glad that I had the chance to see it when I could. Of course, MJ, by himself became more famous and his music really soulful and groovin' after that but the opportunity to see him perform live again didn't come up. I just had to content myself to watch his videos and other performances on TV which are still electrifyingly exciting and the dance steps really catchy everytime he has a show.

Unfortunately, he has self-destruct and only heaven knows whether he would be accepted again even if he makes another round of hit songs. However, for now, enjoy his contribution to the music industry.

This week's playlist will only be dance tunes and next week will be part 2 of Michael's hits, mostly mellow songs: I hope you like the songs that I have included here:

  • P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)
  • Billie Jean
  • Beat It
  • Off The Wall
  • History
  • Smooth Criminal
  • Rock With You
  • Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough
  • Thriller

My Cubicle

This was forwarded to me on my email and it sure made a big hit in the office the day we got it. Whoever made up the lyrics must have known and felt the pain of working in a cubicle and whoever interpreted the words in song really is so good he sounds like the real mccoy...
